The Program:

Our internship program serves as the culmination of our youth programs. It is in the internship program where graduates from our Accredited After School Program transform into young leaders and begin serving as role models to their peers. An internship at HRCS is the perfect stepping stone towards a fulfilling career in a broad range of industries.  This life changing experience that we offer for our interns is a fundamental aspects of HRCS’s mission.

Eligibility:

Graduates of our Accredited After School Program are eligible to apply for 8 internship positions. Candidates must have graduated from HRCS’s Accredited After School Program with at least an 85% final grade. For others, consideration will be given on a case-by-case basis.

Time Commitment:

Interns must commit to one of two 4 week sessions, beginning July 5th 2010 or August 2nd 2010. Monday thru Friday from 9-4. Additional hours will be available for interns that want to be part of the intern racing team, challenging our adult members on Tuesday night races. Unable to make the exact dates? We’re flexible. Four completed weeks however are required as part of earning the Junior Sailing Instructor Certification or Sailboat Maintenance Technician Certification.

Job Placement Program:

Worldwide there is always a need for experienced sailors and sailing instructors. HRCS’s programs
are recognized by many sailing organizations and the skills gained therein are transferable to a number of fields. HRCS will help interested Interns to find paying positions across the world.

Expectations from Interns:

  • Not only follow, but enforce all rules and safety procedures.
  • Maturity. You will be instructing a crew and setting an example.
  • Punctuality is a must. You cannot miss the boat. If unable to attend, HRCS must be contacted beforehand.
  • Show up well rested, upbeat and with energy, this is a physically demanding Internship.
  • Must have with you each day:

    • Boat shoes
    • Hat
    • Water
    • Lunch
    • Sunscreen
    • Recommended – sunglasses, wind breaker jacket

Application Process:

1. Graduate the Accredited Afterschool Program with at least an 85% final grade.

2. Fill out the Summer Internship Program Application.

3. Participate in an interview with HRCS staff.
