Youth Volunteer and Career Speaker

Career Speaker SeriesWhat:Come visit our after school program and share your professional story with our interested students.  The goal of these Career Speaker presentations is to expose students to careers and career paths that they otherwise might not be familiar with. Every job/career or life story is worth sharing, no matter how traditional or wacky.   The Students: Our students attend one of our 8 partner high schools.  They come from all five boroughs and have a range of socioeconomic backgrounds.  Many of them struggle in various subjects in school, especially math and/or science.   When: 6pm (see schedule below for dates) Where:Pier 66 Boat House (Map) Description:  These short presentations (10-15 minutes) will largely be directed by student questions about the nature of your work and what steps you took to get into it.  Students are interested to hear about what skills you need, what are the best/most challenging parts of the job, and what a typical day is like.  Were you preparing for the career in high school, college?  How so?  Try to keep the talking time brief and make the presentation fun and engaging.  Visuals and objects help to keep interest. How to Sign up: Fill the form to the right.  Questions?  Email Alex Baum, Program Director, abaum@hudsonsailing.org.
