Our youth development platform uses sailing, boat operation, and boat building to further academic skills and instill the qualities of character necessary for college and career success.

  1. Sail Academy

    Students increase proficiency in math by learning basic sailing, navigation, and boat building. Earn a math and PE credit. Open to 9th graders from HRCS partner public high schools.

    Free to students who are accepted

  2. First Mates

    First Mates offers a scaffolded set of youth development experiences that prepare students for college and career. We provide ongoing mentoring, competitive racing, college entrance preparation, homework support, summer employment assistance, and career discovery.

    Free for students who complete Sail Academy

  3. City Sail Summer Program

    Week-long learn-to-sail summer program available for students 10-17. Give your child the chance to learn a new passion, make new friends, and grow as a leader!

    $495/week, financial aid available

  4. City Sail September

    Continue having fun and sailing during school holidays in September. Open to any student 10-17.

Hudson River Community Sailing develops leadership and academic success in underserved New York City youth through sailing education and provides maritime education and recreation to the community at large.
