PATHWAY TO BECOME A SKIPPER
The first 3 steps require zero sailing ability.  You can study for these at home.
1. Take the Sailing Terminology Multiple Choice Exam.  Read about preparation on the Skipper Document.
2. Take the Seamanship Multiple Choice Exam.   Read about preparation on the Skipper Document.
3. Get an Endorsement from a Skipper as an Experienced Crew.  This means they can vouch you know port from starboard, fore from aft, windward from leeward, and sheet from halyard.

AFTER YOU’VE COMPLETED THE ABOVE 3 THINGS YOUR NAME WILL BE ADDED TO THE EXPERIENCED CREW LIST WHERE YOU’LL GET EXTRA OPPORTUNITIES TO BUILD ON-THE-WATER SKILLS

4. Practice the items on the Practical Exam Checklist on the Skipper Document. When you’re ready contact Spence (smerlis@hudsonsailing.org) to take the On The Water Practical Exam.

***If your name is on the Experienced Crew List you get at least 66% off of Private Lessons and sometimes 100% off.
