Your Instructor – HRCS Member Neil FraserNeil Fraser learned how to sail at age 8 on Nantucket and has been sailing continuously since that time.  Since the mid 1980’s he has raced extensively and early in his career made the mistake of learning how to do foredeck.  Having been a sailing instructor for over 13 seasons he is uniquely positioned to teach the novice how master the basics of the foredeck position, known colloquially as “doing bow,” as well as how to trim, pack and even repair a spinnaker. Neil has done bow on boats such as J-24’s, Olson 30’s, Schock 35’s, J-35’s, a Mumm 36, an ILC 40, Baltic 43’s, J-44’s, the Swan 46 Islero, Santa Cruz 70’s Evolution and Pyewacket and Maxi Boats including the former Whitbread (now Volvo) Round the World Race Winner, New Zealand Endeavour.  Some significant victories while on bow include Class wins at Audi North Race Week (twice), Long Beach Race Week (twice), Yachting Cup, Newport to Ensenada, Santa Barbara to King Harbor, St. Francis Big Boat Series, American YC Fall Series and Storm Trysail Block Island Race Week as well as Overall wins at Rolex Swan Cup (San Francisco 1991) and the Opera House Cup (Nantucket 1983). Outside of racing, Neil has approximately 20,000 delivery miles including a Trans-Atlantic as a Watch Captain.  He was the Head Instructor at Pacific Sailing in Marina del Rey prior to moving to New York.  Since 1998 he has sailed in New York Harbor and until recently was a Partner at an infamous law firm in mid-town Manhattan.
